Meet Dr. Carlla Franklin

Dr. Carlla D. Franklin, DDS

Helping People Live Healthier, Happier Lives

Being a dentist means I am able to help people of all ages and backgrounds understand the importance of maintaining healthy dentition. We all need optimal oral health in order to talk, chew, and look presentable in public, at school, and in our professional lives!

I am passionate about caring for patients as I would a family member: with love, respect, kindness, and empathy. I know each patient has specific desires and concerns, so I really listen and encourage them to tell me what they want out of care. By listening without judgment, establishing open and trusting communication, and genuinely caring for a patient, we build a relationship. It’s essential that people know I don’t just fix teeth; I care about the whole person and want to help them succeed.

It is an honor to meet and spend time with people from different backgrounds, at different points in their lives. Each person has stories and experiences to share, and I enjoy learning who my patients are.

The Pleasant Touch Dental Team

My team members are the cornerstone of our practice. They are intelligent, capable, compassionate people. Each enjoys making sure our patients feel relaxed and safe during visits, and provides support and encouragement to ensure everything goes smoothly. My team is passionate about oral health and helping others develop smiles they love.

Education and Continuing Education

  • Bachelor of Arts – Grinnell College
  • Doctorate of Dental Surgery – University of Michigan School of Dentistry, May 1991

Becoming a dentist means committing to constant learning. Oral healthcare is a fast-evolving field. The advances in techniques, materials, and technology lead to more accurate diagnoses, more comfortable treatment, and stronger results.

I am committed to providing my patients with leading-edge dentistry, so each year I complete many continuing-education courses. This ensures I am up to date with the latest advances and current on changes. My patients can be sure they’re receiving the best care.

Giving Back

Being active in our community helps strengthen the bond between the community and the healthcare providers. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and expertise to promote health and healing.

I volunteer with the 203/204 Early Childhood Education Resource Fair, to provide dental exams on the Smile Squad Mobile Dental clinic. I also volunteer my services at the Ann Reid Early Childhood Center, where I speak with parents about dentistry. I’ve volunteered with Care Network, to provide free dental services to the community, as well.

Personal Life

I was born and raised in Chicago and am a proud mother of two wonderful young adults.

When I’m not caring for patients or volunteering with various dental outreach programs, I can often be found volunteering at my church. I also enjoy bowling and photography, and love reading on a variety of different topics.
